Obverse description Central field bears the coat of arms of Danzig — a crowned shield displaying a cross with a fleur-de-lis, flanked by two rampant lion supporters, and surmounted by a five-pointed star. The denomination '5 Gulden' appears in relief below the arms. A circular legend runs along the border, divided by the dates 1224/26 and 1974/76 at the sides.

Reverse description The field depicts a detailed reproduction of the Great Seal of Danzig dated 1400, showing a large medieval cog (sailing vessel) with furled sails, rigging, and flags, set upon stylized waves. An inner circular inscription in Gothic script runs along the lower portion of the field, and an outer legend in relief encircles the entire design.
