Obverse description Central field features two large Chinese ideograms flanked by Manchu script, the entire central device encircled by a ring of additional Chinese characters forming the mint and reign-year legend. The inscription identifies the issuer as the Bei Yang Arsenal and records the twenty-second year of the Guangxu reign. The denomination 五角 (Five Jiao) appears prominently within the design. All legends are arranged concentrically, filling the field within a plain inner border, with the coin edge bearing reeding.
