Obverse description A finely rendered Cattleya orchid (known as the Mayling orchid, named after Soong Mei-ling) occupies the central field, depicted in full bloom with detailed petals and leaves extending across the design. The Chinese legend reading 'Republic of China' and the Republic year date are arranged in a circular inscription around the lower portion of the field. The rim is adorned with a decorative dashed border pattern.

Reverse description The denomination inscription '伍角' (Five Jiao) is rendered in large, bold Chinese characters at the centre of the field. The central device is encircled by an ornate continuous border of stylised traditional Chinese fret and scroll motifs, occupying the full inner rim and referencing classical bronze vessel decorative patterns. The rim itself features a reeded edge consistent with the coin's overall design.
