| Reverse description | The reverse presents a dynamic folk-art composition depicting two stylized dogs facing one another at the center of the field, rendered in an ornamental naive style reminiscent of traditional Ukrainian decorative art. Smaller dog silhouettes appear in a procession along a wavy band at the upper portion of the field, while elaborate scrolling and geometric folk motifs fill the left and right margins. The lower segment of the field is separated by a wavy line and bears the Cyrillic legend РІК СОБАКИ (Year of the Dog) inscribed in two lines within a reserved arc along the bottom rim. |

Ukraine's lunar series began in 2000 and followed the Chinese twelve-year cycle, placing this dog issue sixth in the sequence. The National Bank commissioned these as collector pieces with limited mintages — the 2006 issue was struck to just 45,000 pieces — but distribution through domestic bank branches rather than specialist dealers meant many examples entered collections still in original capsules without ever trading on secondary markets.
The Zahreba reference places it within the commemorative silver category CM.5, catalogued specifically by Mykhailo Zahreba, whose Ukrainian coin reference remains the primary authority for post-independence issues.
