Additional information

The Uzbek Khan Mosque in Crimea, built in 1314, is the oldest surviving mosque on the peninsula and one of the earliest extant Islamic structures in the former Soviet space. This coin was issued in 2014 — the same year Russia annexed Crimea following the Maidan revolution — making Ukraine's decision to commemorate a monument it had just lost administrative control over an quietly pointed act of cultural assertion.
