Issued in 2025 to commemorate the Punisher (PD-2) and similar Ukrainian-developed unmanned aerial systems that have seen active deployment since the full-scale Russian invasion began in February 2022, this coin joins a broader NBU series honoring weapons and equipment central to Ukraine's defense effort. The "Vampire" designation refers specifically to a domestically produced strike UAV capable of night operations, developed and fielded during wartime under significant pressure to reduce dependence on foreign military aid.
The NBU has used commemorative coinage aggressively since 2022 as both a fundraising mechanism and a documentation of the war in metal.
