At left, arranged vertically, are the issue year 2018, Ukraine's small state coat of arms (trident), and the bilingual legends UKRAINE and УКРАЇНА; at right, also disposed vertically, are the face-value inscription П'ЯТЬ ГРИВЕНЬ, the fineness and weight designation Ag 999 15,55, and the mint mark of the NBU Banknote Printing and Minting Works. Occupying the upper field is a stylized graphic of the letter 'A' set against a smooth background bearing a tree-of-life motif with apples, symbolizing learning and literacy.
