| Reverse description | The reverse presents a composition of historic astronomical instruments against a dual-textured field: a meridian circle occupies the center against a smooth background, with the founding year 1821 inscribed to its left and 2021 to its right. Above the meridian circle, rendered against a matte background, are the symbolic coordinates of the observatory's geographic center as determined by Karl Knorre, the institution's first director, positioned to the left.
