| Aanvullende informatie |
The International Year of Astronomy in 2009 marked the 400th anniversary of Galileo's first telescopic observations of the sky and Kepler's publication of Astronomia Nova. Ukraine participated in the global commemorative program coordinated by the International Astronomical Union and UNESCO, which produced official coin issues from dozens of member nations. The Ukrainian issue was struck in nickel brass rather than silver — a cost-driven decision that placed it firmly in the circulating commemorative tier rather than the collector proof series the National Bank was issuing simultaneously in fine metals.
