Ukraine's post-Soviet commemorative program expanded aggressively in the early 2000s, and this issue belongs to a period when the National Bank was deliberately using collector coins to project cultural continuity — Orthodox Christmas observance had been suppressed under Soviet rule, and its public rehabilitation made it a recurring subject for state commemoration after independence.
The Zahreba reference places it firmly within the Ukrainian specialist catalog system developed by collector Vasyl Zahreba, the primary cataloguing authority for modern Ukrainian numismatics outside of KM.
