Ukraine's constitution was adopted on June 28, 1996, after a marathon overnight session in the Verkhovna Rada that stretched past dawn — deputies had been warned their parliament would be dissolved if they failed to produce a document by morning. The resulting text was a compromise hammered out under acute political pressure, with President Kuchma and parliamentary factions trading concessions through the night.
The National Bank issued this coin as part of its long-running commemorative program marking Ukrainian statehood milestones. Struck in .925 silver with a relatively modest weight for the series, it was produced in limited numbers for collector sale rather than circulation.
