The legend DEUTSCH OSTAFRIKA arcs around the upper periphery in bold raised Latin letters, while the date 1908 appears along the lower field flanked by small rosette stops. The composition is bold and heraldic, characteristic of the engraving style of the Berlin Mint under Emil Weigand. |
