| Obverse description | Central device depicts the Imperial German State Crown (Reichskrone) rendered in high relief, surmounted by a cross and ornamented with eagles and a central cross pattée on the band, resting upon spread mantling with decorative foliate scrolls to either side. The legend DEUTSCH OSTAFRIKA arcs around the upper periphery in bold raised Latin letters, while the date 1908 appears along the lower field flanked by small rosette stops. The composition is bold and heraldic, characteristic of the engraving style of the Berlin Mint under Emil Weigand. |
