Obverse description The obverse features a central round hole flanked by the date, with the year numerals split on either side of the perforation. An imperial crown is positioned above the hole at the top of the field. A two-line inscription in Latin script arcs along the lower periphery, reading DEUTSCH OST-AFRIKA, identifying the issuing territory. The overall design is stark and utilitarian, typical of colonial coinage of the period.
