5 Heller Oberhollabrunn Refugee Camp

Oberhollabrunn, a small market town in Lower Austria, hosted one of the larger Austro-Hungarian refugee processing stations during the First World War, absorbing civilian populations displaced primarily from Galicia and Bukovina as Russian forces advanced in 1914–15. Camp scrip of this type was issued because normal coinage had effectively vanished from circulation by 1915 — hoarded, melted, or simply absent — leaving administrative facilities across the empire to print their own fractional notes for internal canteen and camp commerce.

The Camb#1595 designation places this among the documented Lagergeld issues, but surviving examples are genuinely uncommon. Most camp scrip of this period was redeemed, destroyed, or simply discarded at the war's end.
