The 1976 Vietnamese note series, of which this is the lowest denomination, marked the first unified currency issue following reunification — the new đồng replaced both the South Vietnamese đồng and the North Vietnamese đồng simultaneously in September 1975 in the South, then the full series was formalized in 1976. The hào denominations saw very limited practical use almost immediately; rampant inflation through the late 1970s and early 1980s rendered fractional values economically irrelevant within years of issue.

A print run of just over twelve million sounds substantial but is modest for a country-wide currency introduction of this scale.
