Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Emperor Franz Joseph I facing right, the youthful effigy rendered with fine detail including a laurel wreath tied with a ribbon at the nape. The surrounding legend reads FRANZ JOSEPH I V G G KAISER V OESTERREICH, distributed evenly around the periphery within a beaded border. The date 1855 appears in the lower exergual area beneath the portrait. The high-relief modeling of the emperor's features reflects the refined engraving style of the mid-nineteenth century Vienna mint workshop.
