De Curaçaosche Bank served as the central bank for the Netherlands Antilles from 1828 until its eventual replacement by the Bank van de Nederlandse Antillen in 1962. This note falls within the final years of that institution's operation, issued during a period when Curaçao's economy was heavily tied to Shell's enormous Isla refinery — at the time one of the largest oil refineries in the world — making the local currency's stability unusually dependent on a single industrial operation.
Joh. Enschedé en Zonen had printed Netherlands Antillean currency for decades by this point, and the quality of intaglio work on the P#38 series reflects that long relationship. The date range spans six years, meaning individual notes can be found with handwritten or stamped issue dates across that window.
