| Obverse description | Central field displays the crowned oval shield bearing the arms of Grand Master Manuel Pinto de Fonseca, encircled by a decorative garland. The shield is surmounted by the Grand Master's crown. The circular Latin legend runs along the periphery, bordered by a beaded inner ring. The overall style is characteristic of hammered coinage of the Order of Malta, with an irregular flan and somewhat shallow relief. |

| Reverse description | Two clasped hands, symbolising faith and trust, are depicted in the centre of the field, with the date rendered in four digits above. The Roman numeral V, denoting the denomination of 5 Grani, appears in the lower field flanked by dots. The surrounding Latin motto legend encircles the design within a beaded border, the whole struck on an irregular hammered flan typical of mid-eighteenth-century Maltese coinage. |
