Obverse description Central field displays the crowned oval shield bearing the arms of Grand Master Manuel Pinto de Fonseca, encircled by a decorative garland. The shield is surmounted by the Grand Master's crown. The circular Latin legend runs along the periphery, bordered by a beaded inner ring. The overall style is characteristic of hammered coinage of the Order of Malta, with an irregular flan and somewhat shallow relief.
