5 Grani - Emmanuel de Rohan

Emmanuel de Rohan-Polduc served as Grand Master from 1775 until his death in 1797, and it was under his administration that the Order produced its most sophisticated legal code — the Diritto Municipale di Malta of 1784, which remained in force well into the British period. The Order's mint on Malta was one of the last sovereign minting operations in the central Mediterranean before Napoleon's seizure of the island in 1798 ended eight centuries of Hospitaller independence.

The 5 Grani sat at the workhorse level of daily Maltese commerce, handled constantly by a population that mixed it freely with Sicilian and Spanish copper. Survivors with much remaining surface are genuinely scarce for exactly that reason.
