Obverse description At left, an oval vignette portrays a woman in classical dress harvesting coffee, rendered in intaglio. The centre carries the denomination numeral 5 within an elaborate guilloche rosette, flanked by serial numbers. The upper border bears the bank title BANQUE NATIONALE DE LA REPUBLIQUE D'HAITI in letterpress, with CINQ GOURDES in bold serif type below the central vignette.

Reverse description The centre of the reverse presents a rectangular vignette of a busy tropical harbour or market scene, framed by large interlocking guilloche letters G on each side forming the denomination cipher. The upper portion carries the bank title in two lines within a decorative border, with CINQ GOURDES in a ribbon panel beneath the central vignette. A block of French legal-tender text and the printer's imprint AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY appear at the foot.
