| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field features two sinuous dragons facing one another amid stylised clouds, rendered in high relief within a beaded inner circle. The legend 大朝鮮 (Great Joseon) and 開國 (founding era) appear to the left, with the regnal year in Chinese characters inscribed along the upper arc outside the beaded border. The Korean hangul denomination 오푼 is positioned to the right, while the romanised legend 5 FUN is inscribed along the lower arc, all separated by raised dots. Korea's first mechanically struck coinage was produced at the Incheon mint, established in 1883 with Japanese technical assistance — a detail that reflects the uncomfortable geopolitical pressures the Joseon court was navigating between Japanese, Chinese, and Western imperial interests. This series predates the formal protectorate by over a decade, but the mint's foreign dependency was already a telling sign of where sovereignty was headed.
The Incheon facility was shut down and later replaced by a new mint in Seoul in 1892, precisely the opening year of this issue's production run.
