Albania's Italian-language national bank — Banca Nazionale d'Albania in the Rome-facing paperwork — issued this note following the Italian invasion of April 1939, which installed a personal union under Victor Emmanuel III. The Banka Kombëtare e Shqipnis name preserved the appearance of Albanian institutional continuity while the country was being absorbed into the Italian empire.
Printed by the Istituto Poligrafico dello Stato, the Italian state printing works responsible for much of fascist-era Italy's official document production, these notes were never a product of Albanian monetary independence in any practical sense.
