| Beschrijving keerzijde | A multicolor portrait of Prince Charles and Princess Diana of Wales is depicted within the central inner circle, rendered as a commemorative photographic-style color image. The surrounding field bears the dedicatory legend identifying the subjects and the series theme. The inscription arcs around the upper and lower portions of the coin in two lines, referencing the Royal Houses of Europe of recent centuries. |

Issued by the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1999 — the same year the country had formally reverted to that name after decades as Zaire — this piece belongs to a wave of foreign-themed commemoratives produced almost entirely for the collector export market rather than domestic circulation. Congo issued dozens of such pieces through the late 1990s and early 2000s, licensing celebrity and royal imagery to generate hard currency revenue during a period of severe economic collapse and ongoing civil war.
Diana had died two years before this coin was struck.
