| Obverse description | The face value '5 FRANCS' is displayed prominently at the centre of the field within a wreath composed of two laurel branches tied at the base with a ribbon bow, with the mint mark appearing below. The legend 'RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE' encircles the design along the outer rim, reading upward on the left and downward on the right. The Republican year designation 'L'AN 7' (An VII of the French Revolutionary calendar, corresponding to 1798–1799) appears beneath the denomination within the wreath. A beaded inner border frames the entire design. The composition is rendered in a restrained neo-classical style consistent with the Directoire period coinage. |
