Obverse description Central field displays the large denomination numeral '5' superimposed over a stylized frontal view of the Eiffel Tower, rendered in a bold, graphic design by engraver Joaquin Jimenez. The tower motif is integrated with the figure to form a unified compositional element occupying the majority of the coin's field. The circular legend 'REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE' runs along the upper periphery, with the word 'ESSAI' inscribed above the central device. The engraver's signature 'J.JIMENEZ' appears in the lower field beneath the central design. The entire coin die is set within a large, irregular lead matrix characteristic of an épreuve de contrôle d'avers, used for quality control verification of the obverse die.
