Obverse description At center, a finely detailed effigy of a roaring lion's head facing left, set within a raised inner circle. The intermediate ring bears the circular legend REPUBLIQUE DEMOCRATIQUE DU CONGO. The outer border carries the issuer's name BANQUE CENTRALE in the upper arc and the denomination 5 FRANCS in the lower arc, flanked by six decorative five-pointed stars. The date is split 19 - 99 at the sides of the outer border.

Reverse description Within a raised inner circle, a multicolor printed portrait of Prince Claus of the Netherlands in three-quarter bust facing left, wearing formal attire. To the upper left of the portrait appears the legend LE PRINCE DES PAYS-BAS, and below the bust the name CLAUS *1926. A crowned Dutch royal coat of arms is depicted in color to the right of the portrait. The outer border bears the series inscription MAISONS ROYALES D'EUROPE DES SIECLES DERNIERS arranged around the full circumference.
