Obverse description The allegorical figure of the Republic, depicted as the Semeuse (Sower), strides leftward, draped and wearing a Phrygian cap, her long hair flowing freely as she casts seeds against the wind. A rising sun appears in the background to the right of the figure, its rays radiating across the field. The engraver's signature O. ROTY appears incuse below the figure. The legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE arcs along the upper periphery. The design exemplifies the elegant Art Nouveau style for which Roty's Semeuse is celebrated.
