| Obverse description | Frontal effigy of Queen Ranavalona III, depicted in a highly detailed, sculptural relief characteristic of late 19th-century medallic art. The queen is shown wearing a braided crown surmounted by a floral finial, with her hair arranged in plaited braids falling to either side beneath a delicate veil. She wears a beaded necklace from which hangs a prominent Latin cross, and drop earrings are visible at each ear. The circular legend RANAVALO MANJAKA 3 arcs around the upper periphery in raised Latin letters, flanking the crown, with the numeral 3 positioned at the lower right of the field. |
