Neutral Moresnet was a peculiar accident of the 1816 Congress of Aachen — a roughly 3.5 square kilometer strip of land left unassigned between the Netherlands and Prussia because neither side wanted to negotiate over its zinc mine. It persisted as a stateless anomaly until 1920, when the Treaty of Versailles handed it to Belgium. This coin is a 2022 fantasy issue: Neutral Moresnet never produced coinage during its actual existence, and it had no monetary authority of its own.
