| 裏面の説明 | The denomination 5 FRANCS is displayed in bold numerals and lettering within a square cartouche set on its corner to form a diamond, itself inscribed within a larger octagonal frame decorated with intricate arabesques. The word ESSAI appears below the denomination, confirming the trial strike status. The entire central device is surrounded by elaborate foliate arabesque scrollwork within a beaded circle. The legend MAROC arcs prominently along the upper rim in Latin characters, while an Arabic inscription occupies the lower periphery. Mintmaster and engraver privy marks appear in the field flanking the central device. |

Mohammed V had been maneuvering carefully under French Protectorate authority since 1927, and the 1946 coinage program — including this essai — was part of a broader assertion of Moroccan monetary identity at a moment when the Sultan's political ambitions were sharpening considerably. Within six years, he would be exiled to Madagascar by the French. Essais of this type were struck in limited quantities for official approval purposes and rarely entered general circulation, which accounts for their survival in consistently choice condition.
