Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of Prince Louis II in left-facing profile, rendered in high relief with sharply defined facial features. The circumferential legend reads LOUIS II PRINCE DE MONACO, separated by the truncation of the bust. The engraver's signature L. MAUBERT appears in small incuse lettering below the neck truncation, with the word ESSAI inscribed immediately beneath in the lower field. The entire design is framed by a continuous beaded inner border.

Reverse description The crowned and mantled coat of arms of Monaco occupies the central field, displaying the dynastic lozengy pattern of the Grimaldi family in high relief. The denomination 5 FRANCS is inscribed in the upper legend, flanking the crown, while the date 1945 appears in the lower exergual area. The Monegasque motto DEO JUVANTE is displayed as part of the legend, affirming the House of Grimaldi's traditional invocation. The design is encircled by a beaded border consistent with the obverse.
