| Obverse description | Central field features a finely detailed high-relief bust of a roaring lion facing left, set within a recessed circular medallion. Surrounding the central medallion, the legend REPUBLIQUE DEMOCRATIQUE DU CONGO arcs around the inner ring. The broad outer border carries the legend BANQUE CENTRALE at the top and 5 FRANCS at the base, with the divided date 19 99 flanking the design on either side, all separated by five-pointed stars.
