Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of King Leopold III of Belgium in left-facing profile, rendered in high relief with naturalistic detail. The legend LEOPOLD III curves along the lower periphery in large serif capitals, while the date appears to the right of the portrait in the field. A fine beaded border encircles the entire obverse design.

The bilingual issuing authority legend BANQUE DU CONGO BELGE curves along the upper periphery and BANK VAN BELGISCH CONGO along the lower, reflecting the French and Dutch names of the Bank of the Belgian Congo.
