| Obverse description | Bare-headed right-facing bust of President Sékou Touré occupying the majority of the obverse field, engraved in high relief with fine naturalistic detail. The legend 'REPUBLIQUE DE GUINEE' curves along the lower periphery, while the date '1959' is divided across the upper field, '19' to the left and '59' to the right of the portrait. The design is the work of engraver Paul Vincze, rendered in a bold and assured portrait style characteristic of mid-20th century African coinage. |

| Reverse description | The large numeral '5' dominates the central field, flanked symmetrically by two groups of palm trees rendered in stylised relief, evoking Guinea's tropical landscape. Below the numeral, the denomination 'FRANCS GUINEENS' is inscribed in two lines. The date 'LE 2 OCTOBRE 1958', commemorating Guinea's independence, curves along the upper periphery, while the national motto 'TRAVAIL - JUSTICE - SOLIDARITE' (Work - Justice - Solidarity) runs along the lower periphery between two small five-pointed stars. |
