Reverse description Central field features the denomination 5. F and date 1848 within a raised beaded inner circle, with the mint mark A (Paris) positioned to the lower left of the denomination. The central cartouche is surrounded by a wreath composed of an olive branch on the left and an oak branch on the right, tied at the base by a sheaf of wheat, all in finely modeled high relief. The Republican motto ÉGALITÉ * FRATERNITÉ * LIBERTÉ * encircles the design as a continuous legend along the outer border, interrupted by small five-pointed stars, with a beaded rim. Notably, the digit 4 in the date 1848 is struck in mirror or reversed orientation, a distinctive characteristic of this essai.
