The Institut d'Émission de l'Afrique Équatoriale Française et du Cameroun was a short-lived body, established in 1955 as France began restructuring its colonial monetary apparatus ahead of deaccession. This 5 Francs note was among the last issues under that authority before the transition to successor institutions following independence movements across French Equatorial Africa in 1960. Georges-André Klein designed for the Banque de France's printing arm across numerous colonial series; Beltrand and Chapon were both senior workshop engravers whose names appear across issues of this period.
