Aanvullende informatie

Queen Astrid of Belgium died in a car accident near Küssnacht, Switzerland, in August 1935 — her husband, King Leopold III, was driving. The crash killed her instantly at age 29 and triggered a period of national mourning across Belgium and its colonial territories. This issue, struck by the Banque Centrale du Congo more than six decades after her death, belongs to a wave of commemorative coinage Congo produced in the late 1990s targeting the collector market rather than domestic circulation.
