The Trésor Français notes were issued for use by Allied forces and French military personnel following the Liberation, a parallel currency designed to prevent the black-market absorption of regular French francs into occupied or transitional territories. This 5 Francs belongs to the second series of military francs, distinguished from the earlier 1944 Allied Military Currency — those were printed in the United States and Britain under SHAEF authority, whereas this issue came directly from the Banque de France.
Pierre Munier's engraving work for the Banque de France spanned decades; his hand appears across numerous metropolitan issues of the same period, which gives this military note an unexpectedly refined finish for what was essentially a transactional instrument.
