American military scrip issued by unit-level officers' clubs was strictly unofficial — these notes circulated within a single regiment's social economy, covering bar tabs, card games, and mess charges rather than any sanctioned military exchange. The 301st Ordnance Regiment served in the North African theater, meaning this note was almost certainly in use during or after the 1942–43 campaigns, when U.S. forces were establishing rear-area logistics infrastructure across Algeria and Tunisia.
Unit scrip of this type was tolerated rather than authorized, and most was destroyed or simply lost when regiments rotated home. Survival rates are low precisely because nobody thought to keep it.
