Obverse description Three five-pointed stars arranged in a triangular formation at center, surrounded by two concentric arcs of legend in both Kirundi and French. An oak branch with acorns spans the lower field beneath the stars, flanked by two additional small stars at either side. The date is inscribed in the lower exergue. The outer legend reads IBANKI YA REPUBLIKA Y'UBURUNDI above, with the bilingual motto UBUMWE-IBIKORWA-AMAJAMBERE / UNITE-TRAVAIL-PROGRES curving along the inner arc.

Reverse description Large numeral '5' prominently displayed at center, with the denomination FRANCS and its Kirundi equivalent AMAFRANGA inscribed below in two lines. The central device is flanked by two tall, symmetrical laurel branches curving upward from the base to frame the field. The issuing bank legend BANQUE DE LA REPUBLIQUE DU BURUNDI arcs along the upper periphery, while the stylized monogram BRB appears in the lower field beneath the wreath.
