The Banque du Royaume du Burundi was a short-lived institution — the kingdom itself was abolished in November 1966 when Michel Micombero's coup ended the monarchy and declared a republic. Notes issued under the royal bank's name were withdrawn and replaced, making the entire series relatively short-lived in circulation. The 1964–1965 dating on this note places it squarely in the reign of Mwami Mwambutsa IV, who was himself deposed by his own son in July 1966 before the republic was even declared.
