| Aanvullende informatie |
France had no silver 5-franc piece after 1879, and the interwar nickel issues that replaced smaller denominations were a direct consequence of wartime metal hoarding and postwar monetary instability. This type was introduced in 1933 as part of a broader rationalization of French coinage following decades of monetary turbulence tied to the franc's devaluation under the Popular Front governments. Production continued through 1939, with the final year seeing sharply reduced output as metal was increasingly diverted toward rearmament.
The 1938 and 1939 dates are considerably scarcer than the earlier strikes in the series.
