| 表面の説明 | Right-facing bust of Lajos Kossuth, the Hungarian statesman and national hero, rendered in high relief with fine sculptural detail characteristic of the medallic tradition. Kossuth is depicted with a beard and period civilian attire, his portrait dominating the central field. The legend 'KOSSUTH' arcs along the right rim, while the dates '1802-1894' arc along the left rim, framing the effigy. The overall composition is clean and uncluttered, with a wide, flat rim bordering the design. The work is attributed to engraver István Szentgyörgyi. |

Hungary's postwar monetary reform of 1946 is still cited as the most successful currency stabilization in history — the forint replaced the pengő at a rate of 1 forint to 400 octillion pengő, the most extreme hyperinflation ever recorded. Trial strikes in tombac from this period document the frantic metallurgical experimentation that preceded the official August 1946 launch, as the National Bank tested available alloys before committing to production specifications. Tombac was ultimately rejected for the circulating 5 forint, which debuted in silver.
