Obverse description Portrait of King George V in an oval vignette at upper centre, flanked by guilloche rosettes and the numeral '5' in ornate cartouches at left and right. The denomination 'FIVE FLORINS' is printed in large bold letters across the centre, with the title 'THE EAST AFRICAN CURRENCY BOARD' along the top. The lower portion carries the legal tender inscription in English, Arabic, and Amharic scripts, with the place and date of issue 'Mombasa, 1st May, 1920' and member signatures at bottom.

Reverse description Printed in green on white paper, the reverse is divided into two horizontal registers. The upper register contains a rectangular panel with ornate guilloche border bearing the denomination 'FIVE FLORINS' in white serif lettering on a solid ground. The lower register presents a wide vignette of an East African lion walking left within a central oval medallion, flanked by elaborate guilloche scrollwork and the numeral '5' in circular cartouches at each side.
