Aruba has issued a consistent run of carnival-themed commemoratives since the early years of its autonomous status, established in 1986 when the island separated from the Netherlands Antilles. The carnival series reflects a genuine cultural priority — Aruba's annual Carnival is among the largest in the Caribbean and predates autonomy by decades, rooted in the island's mixed Afro-Caribbean and Dutch colonial heritage.
