| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands rendered in high relief against a polished field. The portrait is unadorned and naturalistic in style, showing the queen with short, softly styled hair. The circular legend BEATRIX KONINGIN DER NEDERLANDEN runs along the periphery, separated from the bust by a raised rim. |

Aruba's florin coinage has been issued since the island achieved Status Aparte within the Kingdom of the Netherlands in 1986, separating its monetary administration from the Netherlands Antilles. This silver 5 florin piece is part of a commemorative lighthouse series that documented the working coastal infrastructure of the island — the California Lighthouse, named not for the American state but for a steamship called the California that wrecked off Aruba's northwest tip in 1891.
