Additional information

The Yemen Arab Republic's coinage of this period reflects the country's uneasy modernization under President Ibrahim al-Hamdi, who came to power in a 1974 coup and pushed aggressive development programs before his assassination in 1977. The Central Bank had only been established in 1971, and these early fils issues were among the first genuinely standardized circulating coinage the republic produced at scale.
