Obverse description Two crossed flags displayed at the center of the field — the five-barred flag of the early Republic of China at left and the twelve-pointed star flag at right — their staffs bound together at the base. The central motif is enclosed within a beaded circle. Six Chinese characters arranged around the upper arc read 'Year 14 of the Republic of China,' while four characters along the lower arc read 'Worth 5 Fen currency.' A six-pointed star ornament appears to either side of the lower legend. The entire design is bounded by a fine reeded border.
