The Hua Hsing Bank was established in 1938 under the Reformed Government of the Republic of China, a Japanese-backed collaborationist administration based in Nanjing. This coin is among the pattern issues the bank produced around 1940 as it attempted to build a functioning currency infrastructure in occupied central China — a project that never fully displaced either Nationalist or Communist monetary networks in the territories where it operated.
The JNDA reference places this squarely in the occupied-China numismatic literature. Its pattern status means it likely saw no meaningful circulation.
